At Sapience, we think boldly about the possibilities for treating cancer. We aim to discover and develop peptide therapeutics to address oncogenic and immune dysregulation that drive cancer. To accomplish this goal, we are developing next generation peptide therapeutic candidates called SPEARS (Stabilized Peptides Engineered Against Regulation) to drug oncogenic transcription factors and regulatory pathways of disease that make cells cancerous or dampen the immune systems response against tumors. Our lead compound, ST101, is currently in the Phase 2 portion of a Phase 1/2 clinica trial and has demonstrated clinical proof-of-concept in cutaneous melanoma and recurrent GBM.

Position Summary:

The Director of Translation Medicine will provide leadership and implementation of non-clinical studies, including biomarker discovery and toxicology evaluation, for successful translation and development of our oncology therapeutic pipeline molecules from pre-clinical proof-of-concept through early development in first-in human trials. This individual will bring deep scientific experience in oncology discovery and drug development to guide, shape and execute the strategic vision for indication selection for pipeline molecules. This position will be part of the Translational Medicine team reporting directly to our SVP, Translational Medicine and Head of Research.

In this role you will:

  • Have strategic and operational impact on the company’s pre-clinical and non-clinical research, including design and execution of translationals studies to elucidate target engagement, therapeutically relevant drug exposures, biomarker discovery, etc.
  • Serve a key role in the evaluation, selection, and management of outsourced activities and vendor relations for nonclinical pharmacology and toxicology studies and human PK/PD/biomarker sample management, sample analysis, etc.,
  • Liaise with with cross-functional teams and serve as the Translational Medicine interface
  • Prepare or review Translational Medicine contributions to INDs, NDAs, clinical protocols, study reports and applicable regulatory documents in a timely manner
  • Contribute to writing of publications and grants, preparation of slide decks, etc.
  • Other related job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • P.h.D with strong background in oncology and 5+ years of direct experience in the therapeutic development space is essential
  • Industry expertise and strong understanding of translational medicine, drug development and regulatory processes is required
  • Immunological, immunomodulatory, and/or immuno-oncology experience, i.e., experience in conducting preclinical oncology/pharmacology studies and a functional understanding of relevant disease models is a plus
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated expertise managing/developing staff and vendor activities
  • Excellent analytical sills with strong attention to detail, takes pride in high quality work
  • Independently motivated, detail oriented and good problem solving ability.
  • Must have an ability to think strategically
